PSG Consult

An office redesign offers far more than a new look and feel. It can radically change how employees interact with the workspace (and each other). Oooh Interiors recently revamped PSG Consult Group’s office space. Now, PSG’s office environment supports their position as a leading financial services group in South Africa. Here are the redesign highlights:

Horizontal PSG lights

Light

Dark-toned furniture originally dominated PSG’s office space. This made the workspace seem far more gloomy than it actually was. Desk positions also didn’t make the most of the natural light available. This is something we wanted to change, as natural light plays such an important role in workplace comfort.

Our redesign introduced lighter-toned furniture for a brighter mood. We arranged desks in clusters so that a window is visible from every workstation. Increased access to natural light did wonders to lift the mood. This was enhanced by replacing curtains with blinds, where appropriate, to let in more natural light. We also introduced reflective materials like metallic accents, glasswork and ceramics. These touches make the most of available light in PSG’s office space.

Horizontal Kitchen

Space

Bulky furniture disrupted flow in PSG’s original office plan. There was a sense of staff being boxed in, despite the open-plan office layout. For example, a communal printer filled the space between workstations. Filing happened both above and below desks, further contributing to the lack of space.

We arranged desks in clusters to allow free movement between different sections of the office space. Each desk was equipped with an attached filing cabinet. This ensured there was a place for paperwork without creating clutter. PSG’s boardroom also benefited from introducing additional cupboard space.

Horizontal Office space

The original boardroom design featured a horseshoe-shaped table. This table introduced negative space in a way that complicated collaborative working. We introduced a more minimalist boardroom table to bring the focus back to collaboration. Plug-points at the boardroom table support co-working and cut down on clutter from extension cords.

PSG’s cramped kitchen was uninviting for staff to make use of. Our redesign aimed to give staff a place to enjoy their meals and coffee. Company culture benefits from having a comfortable space for where staff can unwind. The revamped office kitchen is spacious with comfortable seating and plenty of natural light.

Colour & Texture

In PSG’s original office space, colour and texture did not support different work areas and their functions. Our redesign replaced the colour palette of browns and creams with different hues to compliment different zones. The office space utilised a cool palette of blue, white and grey to promote focus. The reception area featured warmer, welcoming tones and plush textures. In our redesign, we also ensured plants were visible from every workstation. Greenery is a simple way to introduce colour and life to corporate spaces.
